Why does the duct size have to be so big?

Answer:

Essential Innovations units move twice as much air as conventional furnaces do. When we increase the duct size and move more air, you get a much more comfortable environment. Conventional furnaces wait until your home is cool and then blast very hot air through the house until the thermostat is satisfied. This creates hot and cold spots throughout your home. Geothermal, though, works just above ambient temperature. It uses low mass heat and greater air movement to remove hot and cold spots. If the ducting system is too small you will hear the air whistling through your home. A larger duct means silent operation and greater comfort.
